Thriepley

Thriepley whiskey is born from an idea of the entrepreneur Laura Conway who wanted to bring together three of the most important master distillers in the world,

Bill Lumsden, Alan Winchester and Bob Dalgarno were then involved in an exceptional one-off collaboration to create a unique blend of whiskey, to be produced in very limited number in the amazing scenery of the Thriepley estate for a very special and select number of people.

After production, Thriepley distillery would be dismantled, leaving in the estate 24 casks of whiskey to start the ageing process.

Those 24 casks of Thriepley whiskey are going to be the only ones ever made.

Thriepley got in touch with RD content to create a movie to showcase the project and animation (even more so 3d animation) wasn't initially involved in project.

After visioning a first edit of the film, I thought about the opportunity to introduce 3d animation in order to better illustrate the estate renovation project. My proposal was accepted.

Knowing that the time at our disposal for such an operation was limited, I focused on a very limited amount of scenes and opted immediately for a very stylized approach.

Thriepley had a 3d model of the estate but it wasn't suited for Cinema 4d. The real challenge was then to optimize it prior to animation.

Another challenge was posed by the amount of assets to be textured and as I mentioned, I opted for a stylized approach with two textures: one for big surfaces and one for all the assets with angles.

The second texture was created with nodes that were producing lines with every extrusion: the result was to have objects which looked like they were hand drawn, just like a 3d representation of the blueprints showcased in the movie.

Apart from the estate model, I created the animated model of a book for additional shots introducing the three different sections of the movie: Mastery, Scarcity and Exclusivity
