Metanet
Metanet is a Web3 company whose aim is to
decentralize data ownership and data control on the Internet to build a new Web using blockchain technology and tokens.

We’ve been approached by Metanet to animate a story that would be presented on their Youtube channel prior to the global launch of their website.

The script of the animation was developed by Metanet marketing team. We worked closely with them to develop the right aesthetic.
The story is split in two different parts: one depicting the actual state of the Internet and its “broken promise” with a dark, empty environment where the only lights come from the users and their data, flowing through the system.
The style the client asked for was documentary: we therefore implemented solar flares, footage and camera movement to convey the rugged feeling of an undersea camera.

The second part was on the contrary due to be plenty of light, colours and with a playful feeling.

The towers with the colours of the brand represent the new Web3 Internet, where the architecture is made by data and users and it’s not imposed anymore by tech companies.
A sudden change of Metanet branding while in an advanced stage of production led to reconsider the whole final part of the animation: the client was looking for keeping the coloured blocks but wanted the ending to showcase a transparent architecture and our task was to find a solution to blend the two parts.
I solved that thinking in terms of transformation and evolution: the towers are the core of the architecture, but once assembled the blockchain acts as a protective coating that evolves a random aggregation of data into something unique, secure and -most importantly- transparent.
The “coating” scene as well as the crystal city that appears at the end of the animation are the result of this sudden challenge.
